Manifestation Series: Limiting Beliefs

I had a bit of a realisation last night when I got home from work. I’ve been having trouble getting enough sleep lately; I’ve been more or less depriving myself of it. I’ve latched onto the idea that I “can’t switch off” after work and that I need to stay up and “de-stress”. What this really means is that I stay up on social media until two in the morning feeling more exhausted and frazzled than when I came in from work.

Yesterday, a friend recommended I meditate as soon as I get home. I can’t tell you how much of a game-changer this was. I did a guided meditation through Buddhify specifically for arriving home from work and recognised areas of tension in my body and mind. I realised how tired I really was and how much of work I actually take home with me. After I meditated, I put on the kettle, made a cup of herbal tea and went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. As I was washing my face, the thought “I can still watch a YouTube video in bed!” pinged into my mind.

In that moment, I realised what was really happening. Part of me didn’t believe that I could actually go to bed without utilising social media to wind down. I believed that I needed it. But because I’d meditated and was feeling in alignment, I rationalised this and chose to read in bed instead.

This might seem like a minor occurrence but to me, intercepting that limiting belief in real time and subsequently changing the course of my night had such an impact. I ended up going to sleep over an hour earlier than I usually do and when I woke up I felt ready for the day.

Replacing limiting beliefs about myself with positive, more truthful ones is the next step I’m taking to manifest my dream life Again, I’m taking inspiration from Alyse at Raw Alignment to do so. In her video on this topic, she outlines how to get rid of limiting beliefs. Firstly, we should write down every limiting belief we have in regards to body, fitness, nutrition, career, relationships, money, home, community etc. The next step is to read this quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

Then, we should write a truth to extinguish each of the limiting beliefs and read this list of truths to ourselves every single day. Although a bit time-consuming, this practice has the ability to be a game-changer when it comes to manifesting our dream reality!

Along with reading out an overview of my dream life in the present tense and working with the law of attraction, getting rid of limiting beliefs has the power to be so transformative if I let it. I would love to have a consistent and healthy morning routine that allows time for these practices and I feel like I am becoming increasingly in alignment with myself to allow for this to be the case!

I’m still navigating working in a sector that does not serve me and some of the interactions I have there with colleagues have been a bit damaging to my self-esteem. But when I got home from work yesterday and sat down to meditate, I saw my manifestation notebook in front of me. I saw colourful notes jotted down about the law of attraction. I saw my microphone and my USB interface that I use for recording music and my laptop I use for blogging. And I thought: “This is my life.” These are the things that I love and the things I choose to fill my spare time with and I’m so grateful for that. I have so much more going on in my life than just the job I’m working and I am so much more than who I am at work.

An approach I think is helpful in these situations is to apply a “fresh start” perspective every time we go to work and interact with the people that we find a bit volatile. I’m trying to start each shift with a clean slate instead of dragging the emotional baggage of the day before back in with me. This helps especially if I’ve had a damaging interaction with somebody.

When I write down all of my limiting beliefs, I think I’ll find a lot of them are in relation to work. I’ve worked a lot of jobs that haven’t served me which I think has internalised this belief that my work ethic is off or that I’m not an efficient or valuable employee. I know that this is not the case, however, and I’m looking forward to combating these beliefs with more truthful, positive ones.

Would you consider getting rid of your limiting beliefs in this way? What steps are you taking to get closer to your dream life and living in alignment with your higher self? Let me know in the comments!

As always, thank you so much for reading.

  1. Awesome piece! I love that Marianne Williamson quote, and such a great idea to meditate straight after work, and the “fresh start” approach to colleagues. Yes to manifesting 💛✨

  2. Really great piece of writing, as always, and full of good ideas. I agree with B, great idea to meditate straight after work and the fresh start each day is such a healthy way to look at things. And I like that you can come home and recognise yourself and your real life- your music and your writing, and know that work and you at work isn’t the be all and end all so you won’t get lost in it. Wishing you all the best, as always x

    1. Thanks very much! I find it difficult to do after every work day but even doing it now and then has been really beneficial. It’s easy to get swallowed up by work so I’m working at trying to retain my energy for passion projects and manifesting my dream future! The work I’m doing at the moment is just a stepping stone to that 😊 wishing you all the best too! X

  3. Well put. I learnt to day (in a funny way) that sometimes being so specific with visualisations can actually limit the outcome. Sometimes things manifest which tick the boxes and provide us with even more gifts than we asked for. Just a thought. I actually wrote a little about it in my blog post today if you are interested… https://www.thepeacockdreamingblog.com/2018/07/29/humble-art-of-manifestation/

I look forward to hearing more about your journey. x

    1. That’s interesting! Advice I’ve been following is to be very specific on your vision but I also like the idea of giving more legroom for variety! I’ll check your post out, thank you for reading! 🙂 x
